About the Shotokan Karate Coalition

Evolution Martial Arts runs under the auspices of the Shotokan Karate Coalition (SKC), the fastest growing karate association of its kind in Australia.

Founded by its internationally recognised Chief Instructor, Keith Geyer Sensei, in 2002, the SKC has forged a reputation for superior instruction and competition standards. It is actively involved with numerous martial arts organisations from a diverse range of styles and is a registered body with the Australian Karate Federation.

In addition to the expertise of Keith Geyer, the organisation also boasts Stan Schmidt Sensei as its Technical Adviser, the most prominent Shotokan karate practitioner in the western world today.

The SKC hosts annual national championships for both junior and senior competitors as well as conducting yearly seminars for all its members which incorporate dan examinations for students wishing to attempt their black belt grading.

SKC Chief Instructor Keith Geyer Sensei

Keith Geyer has practiced the art of karate for almost four decades under the guidance of legendary karate master Stan Schmidt Sensei and has visited and trained in Japan many times to improve his karate skills and knowledge.

He also spent considerable time training under the late Masatoshi Nakayama Shihan, who was personally selected by Gichin Funakoshi - the original pioneer of the Shotokan style - to pass on the art of Shotokan karate to modern practitioners.

In September of 2000, Keith obtained his 7th Dan black belt in Tokyo, Japan. The grading panel was headed by Motokuni Sugiura Shihan, the chief instructor of the Japan Karate Association (JKA).

Considered one of Australia’s best karate instructors, Keith is also recognised across the globe as a world-class coach and tournament referee.

He continues to produce elite karate-ka at his dojo in Melbourne and has strong ties with many senior instructors from a variety of martial arts styles around the world and interacts with them on a regular basis.
